Public Speaking Tips
Master the Skill
01
Connect with Your Breath
Public Speaking begins with breath. Without a strong connection to our breath you won't be able to create sound effectively. It not only alters the quality of your voice, but your whole physicality and presence. Connecting to your breath help you to communicate clearly, calmly and confidently.
02
Focus on Your Audience
To be an effective public speaker, shift your attention from yourself to your audience.
Communication happens in the space between people, not in our heads. If you get nervous it's very easy to slip back into your own head, challenge yourself to put your attention out and connect with your audience. Then you not only have all the information within your own head to get you back on track but also all of the information from your audience.

03
Speak With Not At People
When delivering a speech, it's important to speak with people, not at them. Listening to an audience is as important as talking to them. As you speak put your attention on your audience, Are they engaged? Is your message having the impact you wish it to? If not, alter how you are speaking and communicating your ideas in the moment. Not only will this make your speech more effective it will create a connection with the audience and make your message more impactful.

Tips for Lamda Examinations
Enjoy the work
01
Find pleasure in the work.
If you're feeling uncomfortable, then your audience will feel uncomfortable and walls will come up which block your communication. Almost all of the adults that I work with had negative public speaking experiences growing up, which can be a long process to undo in adult life. By making public speaking fun at a young age, you empower young people with vital confidence from the get go. They grow up always knowing that their opinions and feeling are important, and enjoy sharing all they have to offer with the world. Parents often see a transformation in their relationship with their children as they start to enjoy expressing their feelings and what's going on in their lives.

02
Embrace the process
The exercises that we look at along the way will not only help you pass your LAMDA exam but build effective communication skills that will be invaluable in adult life. LAMDA qualifications have been expertly crafted over the years to guide you on a learning journey to build essentials skills in a fun and engaging way. The point of LAMDA exams is the process, the skills, the confidence and the fun. We are not looking for an out of the box 'perfect' end presentation but instead a demonstration of skill and ability to convey your unique message.
03
Practise Consistently
I always use the analogy of going to the gym. I can take you through loads of very useful exercises but you'll only get the six pack through taking those exercises and practising them little and often.
LAMDA exams are excellent at teaching young people how to create their own structure and it rewards disciplined work, in a fun and encouraging way.

The Examiner is on your side
From qualifications designers to teachers, examiners to admin assistants, the role of absolutely everyone that you come across in your LAMDA journey is to help you fulfil your full potential.

Examiners can seem scary but they are on your side, they are there for you and want you to do well. Their whole job is to put you at ease and see you at your best.
